The Best Accessory for the Remote Worker

While we believe the pros outweigh the cons, working remotely in a communal space presents its own set of challenges — namely a constant work station in which you can sprawl out all of your tools and not worry about the surrounding guests. But for the modern worker who is always on the go, Roubaix, France-based piKs design has launched its own luxury product brand, La Fonction, and its first design is a stylish leather satchel that converts into a mobile workstation.

The imaginative design group—which has tackled the interiors of jets for Air France and road bikes for Btwin—came up with the idea from their own experiences as mobile employees.

“We had to use our computers to retouch photos and to create designs,” says La Fonction project manager Marion Picard. “We used them outside in open spaces and in co-working spaces…We had to protect our screen from reflections and prying eyes, and we used clothes or paper to build a private space. Something was missing.”

The bag fits a laptop, a charger, writing utensils, and more into individual pockets. Once unfolded, it can stand up to create a barrier for desk-sharers to enjoy some privacy while also keeping all of one’s desk tools within reach.

Each bag is made-to-order by hand in a workshop in the Cévènes region of France and bears a limited edition number. Check out the workshop:
